If you’re going inshore fishing it’s always cool to spend the day trying to catch a slam. This consist of catching a redfish, speckled trout, and flounder all in the same trip. It’s usually a good idea to try to get the speckled trout first thing in the morning and then move on to trying to catch the other two. Redfish can be caught just about anytime throughout the day around structure like deep docks, rock piles, and bridge pilings. Flounder are a pretty tidal, so you’ll want to time fishing for them around some good moving water.

Local anglers often think of the speckled trout, redfish, and flounder when considering inshore species, but truthfully the list is much longer than that. Spanish mackerel, sheepshead, and mangrove snapper are a few other worth species that are caught inshore on a regular basis and can be a load of fun. Spanish mackerel are typically found throughout the spring, summer, and fall months, but disappear when the cold weather sets in. Sheephead are primarily caught in February, March, and April, but there’s always a few around if you put some effort into it.

If you’re planning a fishing charter out of Pensacola don’t assume that your only option is fishing in Pensacola Bay if you book an inshore trip. A lot of our inshore captains and guides also fishing in the Gulf of Mexico for species like red snapper, triggerfish, amberjack, and mackerel on these trips.
